We understand that the move from kindy/pre-school to school is a significant one for the youngest members of our community. Mary MacKillop Memorial School staff liaise with the local pre-schools and childcare centre to ensure a smooth transition for new students.
We run our Joey’s Jumpstart Program, offered over a 10 week period for your child at no cost.
Each Tuesday, with an optional Thursday, your child will be welcomed into the school at 9am and greeted by our Reception teacher. Your child will then have the opportunity to get to know the staff, the school facilities and experience some of the routines and expectations of school life in a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment.
Each week the session times increase to assist young children to build stamina over time. Whilst at school they will enjoy both inside and outside learning activities.
This time will also give them the opportunity to make new friends, play in the school yard and undertake recess and lunch together. We see this as a vital first step in establishing important relationships and providing a smooth transition into the school community for you and your child.
Families who are still discerning the important decision of which school their child will attend are encouraged to contact the school for a school tour by our Principal, Mrs Nicole Coote.
In addition, they may wish their child to join a session of Occasional Care – our 3 – 4 year old program, offered on Mondays and Tuesdays or join in with our Community Playgroup on Friday mornings at 9am.
